The secrets to effortless dressing

Do you ever wonder why some women always look so put together? That their style is s effortless? Doesn’t matter the time of day or destination, there outfit is always on point. Well I’m going to let you in on a little secret when it comes to effortless dressing…there isn’t one. That’s right you heard me…but stylishly dressed women are aware of a few things…

#1. they dress for the body they have and are accepting of their size

When you are aware of your body and are accepting of your size, you will find items that highlight your key features. You will wear clothing that fits you properly and tailored to you. I believe and so should you, that any woman at any size can always look stylishly put together. But it has to start with knowing who you are. For example, if you are 5’2″ and a size 12, you cannot compare your body to someone who is 5’11” and a size 4. Embrace who you are. I often would hear clients saying that they would like to keep their smaller sizes for when they loose the weight. Stop. Don’t do that to yourself. Wear your clothes for the now.

#2. they know their style

This is something I write about often is the importance of having personal style. If you are not sure, go to Pinterest and type “style icons” and save the images that spark interest. You will start to see similar images being saved and from there you will see what type of style you like. Remember, personal style should always be evolving just like you.

these are a few you will find in my folder…

There closets are organized. The only items they have in their wardrobes are items they love and wear. It’s actually quite simple.

#4. they are smart shoppers

You’ve probably heard me use that term before, but stylish women aren’t shopping all the time. However, when they do buy something it’s because they love it and will wear it.

#5. they don’t believe in trends

No need to go into detail.

9 Steps to Defining Your Personal Style

Recreate The Look: Utilitarian Blouse

I’ve had some of you ask where you can get the utilitarian blouse, so I’ve listed a few options at different price points. Even if you don’t have a utilitarian blouse, I would recreate the looks with any kind of button up blouse. Revisit the looks here.

Three Ways To Wear a Blouse

work wear classics styling tips womens fashion ideas back to work outfit ideas mom style ideasThe utilitarian blouse is a wardrobe staple of mine. I wear it the same way I wear the classic white blouse, with everything.  In the first image, I’m wearing the blouse causally with jeans, black puffer coat, black ankle boots and choker necklace.

In the second image, I’ve kept my outfit monochromatic and left the blouse unbuttoned. Wearing the same black ankle boots and black turtleneck from previous post. An important styling tip to remember is that when you leave any blouse unbuttoned it acts like a soft blazer. Creating more outfit options for you.

In the third image you can dress the utilitarian blouse up by adding a skirt or simple slip dress, with a statement necklace or earrings.

When you can wear an item from your closet three different ways, your outfit options are endless. I feel like I say that in every post…but isn’t that what we all want from our wardrobe?

M is for Mules

Mules are a classic style of shoe that will go with just about everything in your closet. I love wearing my black kitten heel mules with jeans and cropped style pants. With so many options out there, I would suggest sticking to more neutral colors which will fit perfectly into your wardrobe, and yes leopard is considered a neutral.

You may wear it for almost any occasion.”

The Blazer

No matter your lifestyle. No matter if you work in an office, stay at home, or you wear a uniform or scrubs every day. Every woman needs at least one blazer in their wardrobe, that they can depend on.

Just like my wardrobe basic #1 jeans, the blazer gives you countless options. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t own a lot of clothing but I invest in the wardrobe basics and have some great accessories that allow me to create many different looks.

Wear your blazer with any trouser, dress or skirt, you have now created a suit.

Wear your blazer with any pair of jeans.

Blazer can be dressed up or down, depending on the shoes you are wearing.

Add a fur vest to give an entirely different look.

Wear over your shoulders to add instant glam. (I love wearing a blazer over your shoulders when wearing a dress).

You can add accessories to your blazer and no one will even remember it’s the same one. Accessories such as a fur collar, silk scarf, necklaces, and broaches.

Belt the outside of the blazer.

Roll the sleeves up to make it more causal.

7 Days of Style Tip: Fit is everything. If you purchase a blazer that doesn’t look like it was meant for you, go and visit a tailor.
