What to pack for vacation should be items that give you outfit options and always look stylish. The first time I traveled to Europe to say I over packed was an understatement. I packed for everything and anything. I’m pretty sure I even packed a gown for that just in case I get invited to a gala scenario! My suitcase was all over the place, and even though I had a lot of clothing…I didn’t have that many options. Fast forward 13 years of traveling to Europe in the summer and I can say with confidence I know how to pack. Below I’m sharing my packing tips and what vacation essentials you need in order to give you endless outfit options.
first things first…stay true to your personal style.
I always say be true to yourself. My personal style is more minimalist and classic, so I’m not going to pack my suitcase full of bohemian clothing. Sometimes we think that if we are going down south then we need to pack long floral dresses and tons of bright tops, but if that’s not something you would wear normally…why pack it? For example, I personally think a satin slip dress with gold or silver pendant necklaces and gladiator sandals is so chic and easy to pack.
I have my eye on…
pack items that can take you from day to night.
This is absolutely essential when packing for a vacation. I love the idea of wearing a dress or jumpsuit casually during the day with flip flops and a straw hat, but in the evening adding some statement jewelry, espadrilles and a bold lip. When you can get more out of the items you packed…it just makes life easier. Here’s another idea…cutoff jeans and white t-shirt during the day and then evening wear the items with gold hoops, and statement sandals.

accessories. accessories. accessories!!!
I can’t stress this enough! What gives your clothing mileage during your trip will be the accessories. This is the time to bring those statement items. Don’t forget sunglasses, and I always make sure I pack my straw hat and wicker bag. I bought the bag in Capri when I was on my honeymoon and it’s my go-to travel and summer handbag! It will never go out of style.
This is where you can really go bold and make a statement, or go subtle. Regardless which ones you decide to pack…make sure you do bring at least 2! I never forget to pack my Missoni poncho. It’s ideal because I can wear it as a bathing suit cover-up during the day, but at night wear with a tank top and jean shorts. Another item I depend on is my Ralph Lauren blue and white stripe buttoned down shirt. I remember seeing Olivia Palermo wearing her denim shirt on the beach and just thought how chic it looked.
